A little history:

Aphrodite of Milos (Aphrodite), better known as the Venus de Milo, is an ancient Greek statue and one of the most famous works of ancient Greek sculpture. Created at some time between 130 and 100 BC, it is believed to depict Aphrodite (Venus to the Romans) the Greek goddess of love and beauty. Venus became a popular subject of painting and sculpture during the Renaissance period in Europe. As a "classical" figure for whom nudity was her natural state, it was socially acceptable to depict her unclothed. As the goddess of love, a degree of erotic beauty in her presentation was justified, which had an obvious appeal to many artists and their patrons. The original statue is a marble sculpture, slightly larger than life size at 203 cm high. Its arms and original plinth have been lost. It is currently on permanent display at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
