The Apollo Belvedere is an ancient masterpiece of Renaissance Rome. The original statue of Apollo, 2.15 m height, is one of the crown jewels in the Vatican Museums and dates to the 2nd century AD. It was discovered in the ruins of an ancient Roman house in 1489.
Apollo is one of the most important figures of Greek and Roman mythology. He is a god of archery, music, dance, poetry, truth and prophecy, healing and diseases, the Sun and light and more. Apollo is the son of Zeus and Leto and has a twin sister, the chaste huntress Artemis.
